Footprints Leading to Your Purpose

Many of you have read the touching poem of hope, “Footprints in the Sand,” once thought to be written anonymously, but now being credited to Mary Stevenson. Mary wanted to express that there is always an invisible force to support us, even when we feel that we are all alone.

Taking it “a step further,” it is important to realize that you are often the strength for others after emerging from your own trials and tribulations. While I am not suggesting we are gods, we are god-like if we can transform the pain of our past and form it into a breath of serenity for others.

What challenges in your life have left you stronger, more capable and more resistant to fear? When did you feel carried over a seemingly insurmountable mountain of obstacles?

In having been carried, in having been lifted, you are granted the power to raise others who now stumble on the same twisted path.

People need you. People all around you are looking for guidance. They are trying to make it to shore, but are engulfed by the waves. Can you help even one lost soul find an island of refuge?

It is no secret that your life purpose may manifest as having a career that turns your worst nightmares into distant shadows. Use your expertise to ensure that the miles and trials of your past are forever turned into victory. In carrying the weak to safety, you will know what it means to live with courage every day. Carry on!

I have added the story of Footprints if you need a lift today.

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only.

This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints. So I said to the Lord,

“You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”

The Lord replied, “The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you.”
